Shai Venkatraman is a Mumbai-based freelance journalist with over 15 years of experience in reporting on gender, public health and development issues for print and TV. During her stint as Mumbai bureau chief in New Delhi Television Ltd, a leading Indian news channel, she conceptualised and executed several campaigns on infant and maternal mortality and malnutrition. Currently she teaches broadcast journalism and continues to write on these issues for the Mint, Inter Press Service agency, and the Dawn and Express Tribune. She is the recipient of the 2013 Laadli-UNFPA award for Best Documentary for her report on the impact of conflict on maternal health in Kashmir and Maharashtra.
