What is the Goal of World Vasectomy Day?
World Vasectomy Day is an educational event to promote greater understanding and participation by men in family planning.
We believe that vasectomy is an excellent and safe method for men whose families are complete to prevent unintended pregnancies. And while we don’t promote vasectomies for everyone, we do hope that our event will encourage men to participate in this crucial conversation. The message is not just about how many vasectomies are completed, but how many conversations about men’s role in family planning are launched.

What were some major accomplishments in 2014?
On Nov. 7, 2014, over 400 physicians in 30 countries including the U.S, Australia, India, Kenya, China and Colombia performed almost 3000 vasectomies, making it the largest male focused family planning even in history. This was more than double what we achieved in our first year. There were more organizations that joined our event, more conversations in the media, and more awareness of the importance of men’s role in family planning. One of our highlights was when India declared World Vasectomy a national and annual event.

Who founded World Vasectomy Day?
Filmmaker and media activist Jonathan Stack and urologist and vasectomist Doug Stein, MD, joined forces in 2012 to tell the story of human population’s impact on the planet. World Vasectomy Day sprang from this alliance. Our goal is not to lower human population, but to create a higher quality of life for those already living.

What are our goals for November 13, 2015?
This year we are hoping to create mini-events around the world that help educate families about vasectomy, train physicians in latest techniques, and foster relationships with other organizations that are aligned with our mission. We continue to add doctors who provide vasectomies, men who are thinking about or seeking vasectomies, and organizations that want to help. Our hope is to inspire doctors in 40 countries to join our effort.

Where will World Vasectomy Day 2015 be headquartered?
We hope to announce the next headquarters within a month or two–please stand by!

How do men register for vasectomies?
For doctors participating in World Vasectomy Day, please see the list on the Doctors’ Page. However, if you want a vasectomy now, it would be better to celebrate your own World Vasectomy Day early rather than wait until November! Doctors continue to sign on to our list, but there are many providers that may not yet know about us, but can still provide you with the procedure.

How much will other vasectomies cost?
Each practitioner will set his or her own pricing. We were able to offer free vasectomies at our worldwide headquarters in Florida in 2014, and some of the other participating doctors did so as well, but it is not the purpose of World Vasectomy Day to provide free vasectomies, as much as we would love that idea. Most important is that you find someone with experience and good reviews whom you trust! Vasectomies are usually affordable, and may be covered by insurance, though are not currently a deductible-exempt expense under the ACA.

When did the first World Vasectomy Day take place?
On October 18, 2013 we launched World Vasectomy Day in Adelaide Australia where we were headquartered at the Royal Institution of Australia. It included a live studio audience, and we achieved our goal of getting over 100 doctors in 25 countries to do over 1,000 vasectomies in 24 hours.

Was it a live event?
Yes,the first World Vasectomy Day was headquartered at the Royal Institution in Adelaide, Australia, a national scientific nonprofit organization. It included 15 live vasectomies performed in front of invited experts and a studio audience, and the event was live-streamed globally.

Do you recommend the vasectomy providers who join World Vasectomy Day?
While we are confident that these are amongst the best and most skilled on the planet, becoming a World Vasectomy Day provider is not a guarantee or a stamp of approval. It is critical that you do your own research and take the time to make sure that the provider you choose is right for you.

Does it hurt?
Most men are surprised how little pain it causes, which given the amount of anxiety many of us feel beforehand is pretty amazing. In fact, done by a skilled provider, the most shocking part of this is how fast it is. Fifteen minutes from pants down to pants up.

Good news, bad news!
While there is no more effective form of male contraception than a vasectomy, it has no protective powers over sexually transmitted diseases. So for those who play around, you’ll still need a condom!
